A Listener Question On Safety

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to the Business of Color Analysis podcast. Today I'm answering a guest question that someone sent in, and I think it's a really important one. They asked, How do you stay safe when you run your color analysis business out of your home? A lot of color analysts eventually end up working from home studios. It's convenient, it's personal, and it can be a beautiful experience for clients. But it's also completely normal to wonder about safety when you're inviting people into your home. So I want to share how I personally approach this and the things that make me feel comfortable running my studio out of my home.

Never Host Clients Home Alone

SPEAKER_00

So, first is I'm not home alone. One of the biggest things for me is that I'm not home alone when I have clients. My husband is almost always home working on another floor of the house while I am doing sessions. Clients typically never ever interact with him or know he's there because he's working in his office upstairs. But just knowing that someone else is in the home is a big layer of comfort for

Cameras And Visible Deterrents

me. Second, I have cameras and visibility. So I have cameras all around our home. We have a ring camera at the front door, we have it at all the entrances, and they're also throughout the inside of the house and just around the property. So when someone arrives for their appointment, it's very clear from the moment they ring that ring doorbell that the home has cameras and that their arrival is being recorded. That visibility alone adds a layer of security because people know that they are being seen when they approach the house.

Add A Home Security System

SPEAKER_00

Third, we also have a security system installed in the home. That's something I would highly recommend for anyone running a business out of their house. It's just another layer of protection and peace of mind between the cameras, the security system, and the fact that someone else is home, I feel very comfortable hosting clients there.

Use Pricing To Filter Clients

SPEAKER_00

Fourth is another thing that people don't talk enough about is pricing. I've positioned my services at a higher end price point. That means the majority of people who book with me are aligned with my target demographic. They're almost always women and they're just excited to learn about their colors, improve their style, and have a really fun experience. When someone is paying a premium price for a professional service, they're usually very invested in the experience themselves. Very rarely is someone with negative intentions going to pay that amount of money just to come to a color analysis session. And pricing properly naturally filters out the type of client that you don't want.

Layered Plan Plus Invitation To Ask

SPEAKER_00

So finally, running a color analysis studio from your home can absolutely be done safely. And for me, like I've said, it comes down to layers someone else being home, cameras and visibility, a security system, and positioning my business in a way that attracts the right clients. Those things together create an environment where I feel comfortable welcoming people into my studio. And honestly, most clients love coming to a home studio. It feels very personal, relaxed, and special. And if you have questions you want me to answer in the future episodes, feel free to send them my way. I always love hearing what people are curious about.
